| Subject: |
English Language Development |
| |
Grade: |
5,6,7,8 |
| |
Description: |
Some students struggle with concepts related to parts of speech. With these students, I have seen "light bulbs" go off when they can actually build a sentence using parts of speech. My ideas is to create a lesson in which students build sentences. First, they would create parts of speech cards. Using the internet, a student would insert a picture from clip art to a word document and label it noun, verb, or adjective. Some cards might only have words. For example, students might just type the word "quickly, big, or down the street." Students would print the Word doc to full sheet adhesve paper. Using RAFT playing cards, students would apply the labeled picture to the card. Once the cards are made, students would play a card game. For example, each player is dealt 5 cards. They would discard and draw again if they felt they could not "lay down their cards" and complete a sentence. For example, --big boy ran quickly down the street---matches adj., noun, verb,... |
