Prefix Race |
| Subject: |
Science,English Language Arts |
| |
Grade: |
9,10,12 |
| |
Description: |
Students start by going to the following site and playing the matching prefix game. it is a good opportunity to review prefix meanings that may have been forgotten or to add to background knowledge. Students copy several rounds until they have a hard copy or blog copy of the prefixes and their meanings. The teacher moves between student stations sounding out the prefixes and offering hints at their (mostly familiar meanings). The student lists are collated into a master list. Each prefix and definition is made into a separate card. The next day students play a timed game to see how long their group can assemble their set. I assess cooperation, learning styles, deficits, etc. I also photograph/video each group. The idea is to increase your match accuracy speed so that it becomes automatic.
